WHY I MADE THIS WEB PAGE

Writing is one of my passions. When I was a non-traditional student, I met many other non-traditional students who also loved to write.

I met some of those non-traditional students in my English teaching classes at Western Kentucky University.

Now I am writing online on websites and blogs, and on article sites. I am also starting to write some short stories and hopefully will start a novel this year.

So I want to list and share all the neat sites and links I have found while doing my research. See the links at the left.

I hope you enjoy these links here on this page. You can also go to the Writers Page and find even more resources, such as more online writing groups, editing pages, and more. Enjoy!

ABOUT WRITING AND BEING A NON-TRADITIONAL STUDENT

I think it helps a lot to already love to write when you become a non-traditional student. Extra assignments, papers, and essay tests all come easier when you love to write. It isn't such a chore then.

One thing I did remember from being in school before was to start early on writing assignments. When I was in college the first time, I used to put assignments off and wait until the very last minute. As a non-traditional student (and much older...) I just didn't have the stamina to stay up all night and complete projects. It made me much too tired.

I needed to write a lot while I was in college as a nontraditional student, because I was taking education and English courses. My favorite class that I wrote a lot for helped me learn how to critique other people's writing.

The professor had us all do a high school portfolio, complete with many different kinds of writing. It was fun!

MY NON-TRADITIONAL STUDENT BLOG - - AND HOW IT STARTED

Although non-traditional students often are very busy already with school, homework, studying for tests, and family responsibilities, it can be fun to start a blog about being a non-traditional student if you can find the time. I know it was a lot of fun for me.

I started a blog when I was in school, and talked some about being a non-traditional teaching student. You can see my blog here.

There is another writing page on this site, too. You can find even more links there.

ABOUT THE AAA WRITERS AND READERS NEWSGROUP

The AAA Writers and Readers Newsgroup on Yahoo is a mainly new Yahoo group that I hope will help new writers. It is just getting started.

You can join here and post your work on the site.

Also, you can put handy links on the Yahoo group site to help other authors. I looked up Yahoo writer's groups online and found some that were very active. I was not ready to devote a lot of time to writing then, and dropped out of one of them.

Since then, I've become more interested in writing. If you are an author, or would like to be one, please consider joining this newsgroup. I plan to become more active there very soon, and write a short story this year.

When you join, please put a little introduction there about yourself, so the other members know you have joined. Thanks!
